Deep Green Resistance is an organization dedicated to fighting for a living planet. We recognize that our collective tactics to halt the destruction of the planet are failing, while the climate crisis continues to escalate, every year, every week, every day. This fall, we’ve organized a series of skills and tactical trainings for DGR activists and allies alike, with the goal of building confident and competent activist teams and networks in our communities in the Pacific NW. These trainings are geared toward preparing close-knit teams of environmental activists in carrying out safe, successful, and materially impactful actions. Morton (1972) Denver, Colorado–In a first-in-the-nation lawsuit filed in federal court, the Colorado River is asking for judicial recognition of itself as a “person,” with rights of its own to exist and flourish. The lawsuit, filed against the Governor of Colorado, seeks a recognition that the State of Colorado can be held liable for violating those rights held by the River. ...

We learned recently that Guy McPherson, with whom DGR has collaborated in the past, has been accused by multiple women of sexually predatory behavior. We have seen screenshots of comments where he calls women vile names (e.g., he calls one woman a “cum-gargling whore”). These accusations have been corroborated from several sources. At the time we collaborated with Guy McPherson, we had no idea that he was treating women so poorly. Deep Green Resistance has an absolute zero-tolerance policy for abuse and will stand against any predators being allowed access to the movement or anyone who could be harmed. racist tags and posters in eugene, or - The Boreal White nationalist and neo-nazi groups have been present in the region of Eugene and Springfield for decades. However, in recent years they have become increasingly active and bold. The community should be aware of this threat. Locations in the Whiteaker neighborhood, which is traditionally a stronghold of anti-racist and environmental organizing, including the Earth Liberation Front, have been targeted recently by neo-nazi groups via tagging and spray painting slogans and symbols. ...

The Women’s Caucus of Deep Green Resistance is fundraising to provide a stipend to a point person who will head up feminist organizing within and on-behalf of DGR. The women of Deep Green Resistance are hard at work fighting pipelines, protecting forests, defending prairie dogs and buffalo, creating alternative media, supporting camps like Standing Rock, participating in direct action and street protest, resisting pornography and prostitution, challenging regressive gender fads, founding and running grassroots organizations, and bottom-lining the continued work of DGR. ...

Local Global Mass Extinction According to an article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in July, the planet is in the midst of the sixth mass extinction event. Strikingly, the scientists who wrote the article call this a “biological annihilation.” The destruction of the planet happens bit-by-bit. A new big-box store, a new housing development, a new farm. Day-by-day, the change seems slow. But over a decade, or a lifetime, the scale of the destruction is dramatic. ...

A massive LNG pipeline and export terminal is proposed for southern Oregon. Deep Green Resistance opposes this project and stands in solidarity with the indigenous communities, local people, workers, environmental groups, and the natural world who do so as well. A massive proposed LNG (liquefied natural gas) pipeline and export terminal has been proposed in Coos County, on the southern Oregon coast. These projects, which are expected to cost $7.6 billion (twice as much as the Dakota Access Pipeline), are known as the “Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline” and the “Jordan Cove LNG Export Terminal.” The Pacific Connector pipeline would cross more than 400 waterways in order to deliver fracked gas from Wyoming, Utah, and beyond via a connector to the Ruby Pipeline. The export terminal would require its own power plant, expected to be the most polluting in Oregon. The construction and operation of these facilities would contribute further to the disaster that is industrial civilization. ...

Over Earth Day weekend, Deep Green Resistance members in Oregon hosted an advanced direct action training in rural western Oregon. About 45 people attended from several surrounding states. The training began with several anti-oppression sessions to help foster an equitable and safe environment for facilitators and participants, especially for people of color, women, indigenous people, and members of other oppressed and marginalized groups. These sessions, which included an introduction to radical feminism and a group activity around understanding privilege, aimed to inform the interpersonal dynamic and content of the training. This is also to help facilitate a more inclusive and comfortable organizing experience in our communities. ...
