Oregon's History of Racism

Oregon’s history (and present) of virulent racism Check out this excerpt from a speech by Lisa Ponder for some background on Oregon’s racist history and present: We can talk about Statistics: Home ownership affects people’s health, their stability, their wealth, their plans, and their community roots and connections. In addition, there is a strong correlation between a family’s situation and whether there was home ownership three generations prior. ...

Public Interest Environmental Law Conference 2017

Last weekend, the annual PIELC conference took place here in Eugene, Oregon (USA). Despite the name, this conference draws a wide range of grassroots activists in addition to lawyers. Our local chapter as well as members and close allies from around the region attended. On Friday, two of our members gave a talk critiquing energy efficiency as a solution to environmental problems, and more broadly critiquing technological solutions, capitalism, and civilization. About 30 people attended and the Q&A period was good. ...

Upcoming events in and around Eugene

This is just a small selection of events organized by other activists in the area that we’ve seen lately. We can’t speak for these groups, but there is some good stuff being done. Every Wednesday at 7pm, a Standing Rock solidarity group meets at the Grower’s Market, upstairs from Belly Taqueria on Willamette Street. Every weekday, M-F, at the old federal courthouse (211 E. 7th) from 5-6pm a group called “Rush Hour Resistance” is meeting to oppose Trump’s agenda. A group called “Disrupt Eugene” is holding their first general assembly to bring together activist groups in the area on February 11th at 4pm, also with a focus on resisting “Trumpism.” More info at facebook.com/groups/disrupteugene On Monday, February 13th, a No LNG pipeline rally will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at noon. CALC and several other groups are hosting a meeting about nuclear policy in the Trump Administration on Sunday, February 26th at 4pm in Room 145 of Straub Hall on the U of O campus. 350 Eugene is hosting the “Valve Turners” on Friday February 24th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Methodist Church at 1376 Olive St. $20 suggested donation to their legal fund.

Firearms Training for Revolutionaries and Activists

“What do we do in the face of this horror? Do we sit on our hands? Do we lift our hands to god and pray for the Messiah to come? I don’t think he’s coming. What do we do? We use our hands and our arms and our hearts and our lives and our deaths and we fight back, we resist. If you can’t fight, then run. If you can’t run, then hide. But you must resist. Must.” ...

Book Review: “Resistance to Tyranny” by Joseph P. Martino

A Valuable Manual for Armed Resistance For resistance forces to have any chance at success in the fight against the ecocidal corporate state and forces aligned with white supremacy and misogyny, they must be skilled. It is with this skilling in mind that we review the book “Resistance to Tyranny” by Joseph P. Martino. Dr. Martino is a retired Air Force Colonel. He served in Thailand where he conducted research on counterinsurgency. He later was Chairman of the Counterinsurgency Working Group of the Military Operations Research Society. He teaches a course in Just War Doctrine at Yorktown University. He holds degrees in Physics, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. ...

Organizing for Resistance in Western Oregon

The DGR Eugene chapter has been meeting and actively organizing. We have a number of new recruits locally and are participating in DGR-wide discussions, brainstorms, and planning sessions to develop a more focused strategy for the coming year and beyond. Our current plans include conducting training in several Oregon locations, speaking at conferences, and participating in actions to push the movement to escalation. We’re also considering expanding the scope of DGR Eugene to include all of Oregon (and changing the name to match). Let us know if you have any thoughts on this, or if you’re located in Oregon and interested in becoming a member, ally, or just sitting down to discuss revolutionary politics - contact us.

Ecological Special Forces: A Proposal

The planet needs commandos It wasn’t until the 1940’s that what we think of as the “commando” or special forces units were standardized by the British Army. With the goal of disrupting German forces in western France and later in the Mediterranean and North Africa, the first commando units were modeled on small groups of Arab fighters who had great success pinning down much larger British Army units during the uprisings in Palestine in the 1930’s. ...

Activists stage coal-train blockade in Bellingham; train stopped for 12 hours

On Saturday August 27th, activists for ecological defense blocked a northbound BNSF coal train for twelve hours at the Chuckanut Bay railroad bridge south of Bellingham, Wash. in an effort to directly halt the transportation of coal on-route for shipment overseas. The activists, many who represent the organization Deep Green Resistance, initially blocked the open-faced train with a tripod set up on a rail trestle beginning at around 4pm Saturday. When the activist in the tripod was finally extracted by law enforcement eight hours later, a second group of activists locked themselves in an undisclosed location somewhere along the halted mile-and-a-half long train. It was around 3am when the two additional locked-down activists were finally discovered and cut out of their devices. All three activists were charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and obstruction of a train. ...
