Derrick Jensen, who has been called the philosopher-poet of the environmental movement, is speaking in Eugene, OR at the public library on March 4th. The event will take place from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Jensen is the author of 26 books, including Endgame, A Language Older Than Words, and Deep Green Resistance. Morton (1972) Denver, Colorado–In a first-in-the-nation lawsuit filed in federal court, the Colorado River is asking for judicial recognition of itself as a “person,” with rights of its own to exist and flourish. The lawsuit, filed against the Governor of Colorado, seeks a recognition that the State of Colorado can be held liable for violating those rights held by the River. ...
We learned recently that Guy McPherson, with whom DGR has collaborated in the past, has been accused by multiple women of sexually predatory behavior. We have seen screenshots of comments where he calls women vile names (e.g., he calls one woman a “cum-gargling whore”). These accusations have been corroborated from several sources. At the time we collaborated with Guy McPherson, we had no idea that he was treating women so poorly. Deep Green Resistance has an absolute zero-tolerance policy for abuse and will stand against any predators being allowed access to the movement or anyone who could be harmed. The Women’s Caucus of Deep Green Resistance is fundraising to provide a stipend to a point person who will head up feminist organizing within and on-behalf of DGR. The women of Deep Green Resistance are hard at work fighting pipelines, protecting forests, defending prairie dogs and buffalo, creating alternative media, supporting camps like Standing Rock, participating in direct action and street protest, resisting pornography and prostitution, challenging regressive gender fads, founding and running grassroots organizations, and bottom-lining the continued work of DGR. ...

Over Earth Day weekend, Deep Green Resistance members in Oregon hosted an advanced direct action training in rural western Oregon. About 45 people attended from several surrounding states. The training began with several anti-oppression sessions to help foster an equitable and safe environment for facilitators and participants, especially for people of color, women, indigenous people, and members of other oppressed and marginalized groups. These sessions, which included an introduction to radical feminism and a group activity around understanding privilege, aimed to inform the interpersonal dynamic and content of the training. This is also to help facilitate a more inclusive and comfortable organizing experience in our communities. ...
Last weekend, the annual PIELC conference took place here in Eugene, Oregon (USA). Despite the name, this conference draws a wide range of grassroots activists in addition to lawyers. Our local chapter as well as members and close allies from around the region attended. On Friday, two of our members gave a talk critiquing energy efficiency as a solution to environmental problems, and more broadly critiquing technological solutions, capitalism, and civilization. About 30 people attended and the Q&A period was good. ...
