All societies – including the most peaceful; especially the most peaceful – have understood the necessity of codes of conduct, which are nothing more than behavioral norms. All serious organizations have codes of conduct by which people are meant to abide. The Spanish Anarchists did. So did the IRA. The Freedom Riders had a code of conduct, as did Nat Turner’s fighters. Codes of conduct are even more important in militant resistance movements which have a history of behaving badly. ...

Over the first weekend in March, members and allies of Deep Green Resistance (DGR) attended, presented, and tabled at PIELC (Public Interest Environmental Law Conference) in Eugene, OR, as we have for as long as our organization has existed. PIELC (formerly ELAW) has long been a place where disparate perspectives from within the environmental movement—including those of lawyers, radicals, grassroots activists, liberals, and nonprofits—gather to learn from, engage with, and challenge each other. ...

The Sierra Club and other big-green organizations have a long history of making compromises and major questionable decisions that negatively impact the natural world. For example, between 2007 and 2010 they received $26 million from leaders of Chesapeake Energy, a natural gas and fracking company. These donations were hidden from the membership. During this time, the Sierra Club actively supported the idea of natural gas as a “bridge fuel” away from coal, an idea that helped propel and justify the explosion of fracking and the opening of countless new natural gas power plants across the US and across the world. Sierra Club has also worked closely with other major corporation such as Clorox to brand their products as “green.” ...

A massive LNG pipeline and export terminal is proposed for southern Oregon. Deep Green Resistance opposes this project and stands in solidarity with the indigenous communities, local people, workers, environmental groups, and the natural world who do so as well. From a local DGR ally and friend: “On Thursday June 29, I attended FERC’s scoping hearing regarding the Pacific Connector Pipeline / Jordan Cove LNG Project in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The hearing ran from 4-7 p.m. and was preceded by a two-hour meet-and-greet/strategy meeting organized by the opposition. Opponents of the pipeline are from various sectors, primarily indigenous people and other water protectors and pipeline opponents, as well as affected landowners. ...
