Eco-feminism has answers. From the philosophy of domination to the practicalities of overpopulation, there are links between the oppression of women and the destruction of the planet. Those links can be used to harm, as we see today. But they can also be used to heal. Women from Rachel Carson to Vandana Shiva have recognized this. On November 20th, we hosted this exporation of eco-feminism with a special 3-hour live streaming event, The Girls and the Grasses. We discussed ecofeminism, why it is important, and how it will save the planet. We also discussed the role women play in the environmental movement and heard from women on the front lines of resistance to ecocide. The mainstream environmental movement is funded mainly by foundations which often do not support foundational or revolutionary change. Radical organizations like Deep Green Resistance therefore rely on individual donors to support our activism around the world, which is why The Girls and the Grasses is also a fundraiser. We’re trying to raise funds to support global community organizing, fund our mutual aid and direct action campaigns, and sustain our core outreach and organizational work. Feminism is an environmental issue, and environmental destruction is a feminist issue. On July 28th at 5:30pm, Deep Green Resistance in collaboration with regional allies Illahee Spirit Runners will be offering an outdoor skills workshop in the coast range near Eugene. This workshop will cover a variety of basic outdoor skills for survival and thriving in relationship with nature. It will be kid friendly. All societies – including the most peaceful; especially the most peaceful – have understood the necessity of codes of conduct, which are nothing more than behavioral norms. All serious organizations have codes of conduct by which people are meant to abide. The Spanish Anarchists did. So did the IRA. The Freedom Riders had a code of conduct, as did Nat Turner’s fighters. Codes of conduct are even more important in militant resistance movements which have a history of behaving badly. ...

“Woman’s fate is bound up with that of the exploited male. This is a fact. However, this solidarity, arising from the exploitation that both men and women suffer and that binds them together historically, must not cause us to lose sight of the specific reality of the woman’s situation. The conditions of her life are determined by more than economic factors, and they show that she is a victim of a specific oppression. In November, we reported on the fact that more than 50% of the state of Oregon was in “severe,” “extreme,” or “exceptional” drought. This story has barely been mentioned in statewide media. For the past month, data has been unavailable as the Drought.gov website was offline during the government shutdown. Now that the site is back online, data shows that nearly 80% of the state is now in “severe” drought condition or worse. ...

Last week, a member of DGR Eugene brought author and radical activist Robert Jensen (no relation to Derrick Jensen) to town to give a talk titled “Patriarchy: Left, Right, and Center.” Video of the talk can be found here. The audio isn’t great, but improves partway through the talk. It is listenable throughout. In his talk, Jensen outlined how all wings of modern US American culture is patriarchal. He discusses industrial collapse, pornography, prostitution, gender, male violence, fascism, and resistance. ...

On Friday, September 7th, Deep Green Resistance member Max Wilbert was contacted by the FBI in regards to his political organizing. The agent, who identified himself as “Special Agent Michael” from the Seattle Field Office of the FBI, said he was calling “about something [Wilbert] wrote online” in response to “tips submitted to a public tip line.” The same agent also left a card at a family member’s house over the weekend. ...
